HAZARD MITIGATION

Overview

WMSRDC is active in hazard mitigation because it is sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and their property from hazards.  Mitigation Plans (like the ones prepared by WMSRDC) form the foundation for a community's long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses and break the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage.

OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC INPUT

The public is invited to assist in the identification of historical hazard events, ranking of county hazards, and developing goals & objectives to help guide hazard mitigation activities across Muskegon County.  Just read through the draft sections posted below, and then let us know if you have anything to add or correct. These sections are excerpts from Muskegon County Hazard Mitigation Plan which is currently being updated by the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission.  When completed and approved by FEMA, this plan will help qualify the county and local communities for assistance following a disaster declaration.
