The Lake County Hazard Mitigation Plan was developed by the WMSRDC in conjunction with Lake County Emergency Management, the Mason County Local Emergency Planning Committee, the state of Michigan, and interested members of the public. This edition of the plan is an update of the original plan which became effective in 2006.
The hazard mitigation plan provides the foundation for evaluation of land use and development in the county from a hazard mitigation perspective, which will protect lives and property in the community. It is intended that all future development decisions in Lake County will consider hazard vulnerability reduction as a standard business practice and that such considerations will be incorporated into land use plans and zoning ordinances, as appropriate. The intent of the hazard mitigation plan is not to limit development, but to ensure that all development avoids the possibility of damage from natural and technological hazards to the extent practicable.
