In the spring of 2019, WMSRDC began the process of assisting the Village of New Era with concurrently updating the village’s future land use plan and recreation plan. These planning documents will communicate the community’s vision for the future. Both plans must be reviewed, and updated as needed, every five years.

The Village Council unanimously voted to adopt the New Era Future Land Use Plan on September 10, 2020. The recreation plan was completed and adopted by the village in December 2019, and approved by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in February 2020. The village is now eligible to apply for recreation improvement grants offered by the DNR through the year 2024.

WMSRDC would like to congratulate the Village of New Era for its leadership, for completing these two plans, and for taking a proactive approach in planning for the community’s future. The plans are available in the WMSRDC Digital Library.
