Lake County Planning Assistance
Overview
In 2026, WMSRDC began working with Lake County to update County’s master plan and recreation plan.
Master plans play an essential role in land use and development of a community. Although the master plan is not an enforceable document, it will provide Lake County with Goals & Objectives to help align development across jurisdictions and provide strategic guidance for the County’s initiatives.
Recreation plans, once locally adopted and approved by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, allow communities to apply for certain types of recreation grants from the State. Recreation plans must be updated every five years to maintain this grant eligibility.
Public Input
Public input is essential to both master plans and recreation plans. These projects will include opportunities for community engagement through in-person meetings and online questionnaires.
Once available, opportunities for public input will be posted on the Lake County website, https://lakecountymi.gov/.
Timeline
The Lake County Recreation Plan Update is to be completed by February 1, 2027, while the Lake County Master Plan is expected to be issued the following summer.
